2009 Jetta TDI versus the Prius…who’s the MPG champ?
A Washington VW dealer wants to let everyone know that he offers a high-MPG vehicle. To prove so he challenged the Prius to a MPG contest by driving the 2 cars from Auburn, WA to San Francisco.
The results? The Jetta went 733 miles on one tank of fuel and registered 50.5 MPG. The Prius managed a still very good 48.2 MPG and had to be filled up at 570 miles. The drivers of both cars kept to the speed limit through the trip.
Now, I personally think the Prius would do better in the city, but I am very impressed to see the numbers put up by the 2009 Jetta!

The only thing that really proves is that the Jetta… Has a bigger gas tank. (whoop-dee-doo).
The Jetta has a 14-gallon gas tank.
The prius has an 11-gallon gas tank.
That’s why the Prius needed to fill up at 570 miles.
The Prius actually beat the Jetta during that trip for fuel costs, considering that diesel cost $4.65 on average while regular unleaded cost $4.05.
The post just stated the Jetta got better highway MPGs than a Prius. No one was bashing the Prius and obviously since both of their MPGs are close the Prius would have cost less to fill up given the higher cost of diesel.
